CBEBT Facts

What Other Federal Laws Does the CBEBT Comply With?

The CBEBT complies with many other federal laws, some of which are duplicated in ERISA, including those regarding Women's & Children's Rights, Mental Health Parity, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) provides some workers and their families with the right to continue their health coverage for a limited time after certain events, such as the loss of a job. While not subject to COBRA guidelines, the CBEBT allows its participating employers to elect to include an Extension of Benefits Provision should they want to offer similar accommodations to terminating employees.

The CBEBT provides all applicable notices to employers and employees as required.
