Which prescription drugs require prior authorization?
Drugs requiring prior authorization include contraceptives prescribed to treat medical illnesses, amphetamines and central nervous system stimulants, anabolic steroids and androgens, hormone altering medications, acne medications, specialty drugs and growth hormones. If you do not seek prior authorization before filling prescriptions for these medications, the pharmacist will advise you that prior authorization is required.
